Anyone for camping?

We're going nuts around here because it's June already and we haven't been camping yet.

I was talking with MizBubs and I came up with a bright idea. Wouldn't it be a blast to get a bunch of bloggers together for a camping trip? Nothing too extreme, just a nice weekend spent in the outdoors with a bunch of fun loving characters. There are a number of state parks that have group campsites, and I think that some time in July or August we could find something within a 2-3 hour drive of Chicago. Don't be put off if you've never been camping--you can rent tents and stuff from places like REI, and we pride ourselves on making our friends comfortable in the outdoors.

Would anyone be interested in such an event? Let me know--if there's enough interest I'll find a site and start the planning. And if anyone has any ideas or questions, let me know!

Depending on when I head off to Dubai or the Bahamas or Ethiopia or where ever I end up, I would be interested, although I do have reservations about peeing outside.

Lulu, I'm looking at some state parks in Wisconsin right now that have group campsites. They have toilets and showers.

Oh yeah, there are some spots in south/central Indiana as well about 3.5--4 hours away.

"Anyone for camping?"

Wasn't that a song by Cream?

You'd probably be more likely to see elephants dancing on the graves of squealing mice out camping than a match at Wimbledon.

Me and Adam are in.

That sounds like a blast!

I would be interested if a swanky hotel was involved.

So, Grant, maybe something in the Dells? Something classy?

Chris, how far of a drive are you from Chicago? You live in Michigan, right? Maybe there's something in southern MI that would work.

Johnny, glad to hear it. I'll get in touch with you.

Splotchy???

mhh that sounds fun I wish it was closer then Grumpy and I could come. Maybe next year when i am done with school. This could be like an annual thing. if its in Illinois or Wisconsin we can go to ren fair and visit Jin.

bubs, are you suggesting that we bring the entire Splotchy brood on the camping trip? 'Cause my kids ain't blogging yet, the lazy varmints.

I'll have to talk with MizSplotchy about this, seeing as I am incapable of coming to a decision, conclusion or response without her involvement.

I think that's the first time the Dells have been associated with classy.

It sounds like a blast, but The Wifey and I are doing our annual trek to along Lake Superior and to the Boundry Waters in August.

Despite Mr. Yen's leaving the girls out, if it is the proper weekend, that is a very good possibility. As long as there is mosquito netting.

And a bathroom.

I knew I liked Kim, she's sensible.

I'm glad to hear you folks place a high value on comfort. Our summer is already booked up, but I am expecting to hear lots of tales from your adventures.

Unfortunately, most of my summer is prebooked with wedding cake orders...but, there's always that thing called fate. Sooo, do let me know when & who knows? Maybe I get a cancellation...it does happen. Some people book their weddings 2 years in advance & by the time it gets close to the actual date they decide not to get married cos they can't stand each other anymore. Heehee.

Jin, I'll keep you posted. Hope you can make it.

Barbara, I'm sure there'll be stories...

Kim, we have a screen house, I'm sure we'll procure another by the time the weekend comes around...and any place I pick will have toilets and showers. That's my concession to the wilderness-impaired.

Coolcat, that sounds great. I'm dying to get back to the BWCA. I think we're going to settle for a trip to the Sylvania Wilderness in the UP instead, it's only a 6 hour drive.

Lulu, if you want the Ren Faire experience feel free to wear your leather corset.

Ten, are you interested then? How many?

Splotchy, go for it.

Katy, the Ren Faire is about 45 minutes north of where we live. There aren't any state parks close to it (I think) but it is about 5 minutes away from a great outdoor gun range.

If you head to the midwest let us know!

I have a huge back yard filled with trees. Y'all come on down to my place for camping. Cocktails on the deck at 4 p.m.

Johnny Yen said...

Yeah, I guess I misunderstood the repeated "I would never go camping" statements. Sorry.

Danny, glad you like it. That's the view in the morning at the farm in Iowa. We'll be out there later this week.
