Greetings from Fat City

I am a techno-tard, so all my plans to blog from my laptop and upload tons o' cool pics from the southland have gone right down the crapper.

Instead I am sitting in the Bastille Internet Cafe on Toulouse Street while the girls nap.

A brief update. Let's put this in the category of why I love Louisiana. Last night we passed by a fellow cooking something delicious on a grill outside some restaurant in the French Quarter. A lady asked what he was cooking, and as I passed the reply came:

"Char-groiled oysters."

And today, while driving out to a swamp tour, we passed a strip club called "Scuttlebutt". Yes. Someone down here thought that "Scuttlebutt" would be a first-class name for a titty bar.

That's it for now. See y'all soon.

Scuttlebut? I guess Rottencrotch was already taken.

Kirby, you are a riot!

Sounds like a good time, Bubs. Thanks for the update.

I'm glad you're having fun!

I got your snapshot from the Praline Connection as well. I'm glad you're eating well!

Will you bring me back a char-groiled oyster, Scuttlebutter?

How's it look down there, Bubs? Pralines, scuttlebutt and char-groiled (I love it!) oysters aside ... is the city recovering, to your eyes? Just wondering... I wish I could have seen it before, and I'd like to go now. Enjoy...

It's snowing and thundering here. You are in a far better place.

Sounds better than Scuttletitty, no?

Hey, Chicago had a little snow today, just the same as last week.

Enjoy your trip and have a Monsoon at the Port o Call if you happen to stop in.

Laura.

Thank you for all your comments! I will be posting lots of pictures and stuff later this week.

In a word, New Orleans is doing at once both much better and far worse than I'd expected. I'll explain later.

For those of you who've never been, GO. I'm going again later this summer to do some volunteer work, and I can't think of a greater privilege than to show any of you around on your first visit there.
