Friday night at the compound

While MizBubs and I were out at the California Clipper tonight, our beautiful and talented eldest was busy working on a new effect. She sent us this photo to show us what a good job she'd done:

I hope she uses her powers for good. Lord only knows how I'll respond if she springs something like this on me as a surprise after a night of drinking.

Holy cow! That's really good! I'm with you. I wouldn't want to be surprised by those talents either!

That's real enough to make my stomach turn a little bit. Nice work! But I have to stop looking at it now.

Holy Crap! I didn't know your daughter is a special effects genius. Where does a kid even learn this sort of stuff?

Oh, Honey, we're so . . . proud?

MnMom, You bet your sweet ass we're proud! Heh...

Kirby, I am proud to say she got her start from me--I was always very good at Halloween gore effects--but she's taken it way past where I ever got to. She's got all kinds of latex and stuff in her room, and can actually make pretty decent prosthetic appliances.

A couple years ago her school video project on the book "The Hot Zone" (ebola!) was a gruesome smash hit with her teacher. It featured yours truly vomiting blood.

Elizabeth, smashing! I'll let her know she made someone queasy. She's an aspiring movie makeup artist, so that'll make her happy.

Hi Laura! I'll tell her you liked it.

Barbara, the only painful thing about it would be if she applied the latex over any hair. YOWCH.

TBFKADC, I have to be careful. I always considered it great fun to scare my kids when they were little. Now they're getting even. The fact that I'm armed probably keeps them from REALLLY scaring me (they're afraid I'll shriek like a girl, whip out a pistol and begin firing blindly) A couple years ago I was relaxing on the couch, reading, and I heard her call out "Dad?...DAD?" As I sat up she walked into the room holding one hand up in the air, with the other hand clutching it as if injured. "Blood" was streaming down her arm, and when I jumped up off the couch and ran to her she laughed her ass off.

That's amazing looking work, she's very talented!

Is that one large appliance with the edges blended into the normal skin, or something that has to be built up from several pieces?
