German word of the week

The German word of the week (courtesy of Deutsche Welle) is:

Schneckenpost

"Schneckenpost" is a direct translation of the English term "snail mail," combining the German words Schnecke (snail) and Post (mail.)"

One of my favorite German words is "fenster," as in that little warning that is in every train in Europe, not to throw anything out of the window.

Do you know the German word for zipper? I only ask as it keeps coming up.

I've been told that my last name means "Little Chief". Not sure if that's true or not.

It explains a lot though.

The german way makes snails sound so much cuter than they really are...

Cormac - fenster just means window. Perhaps they label things for us 'mericans.

My favorite German word is "Veltanschaung" meaning world view. Just like the way it rolls off the tongue.

Mnmom,

I mistyped, I know that "fenster" means "window," though I forgot to mention that I can't remember the rest of the notice. There was a cartoon that my son used to watch, "The Wildthornberry's" that had a rival family with the surname "Fensterkopf."
