Earlier this afternoon and evening I took a few phone calls from family and friends calling to make sure "I was ok." I got a couple of emails as well. I wasn't sure why everyone was concerned, until I watched the news:
1 runner died, 320 were hospitalized (several are still in critical condition) and over 10,000 runners did not finish. The race was ended and the course shut down early.
I made it, and I'm ok. I'll try and write about it tomorrow. In the meantime, you can visit Johnny Yen and Splotchy, both of whom were kind enough to provide info on my progress.
So, thanks for the good wishes, kind words and concern.
See you later, alligators.

Way to go man. You are one of my new heroes.
The top headline on the New York Times online is "Death, Havoc and Heat Mar Chicago Race." I'm not kidding about this. Glad you ran well and are feeling well.
As aggravating as it was for you to have the race ended, I think that it was a rare case of someone making the right call in a tough situation.
gee I am glad to hear that first thing I heard this morning was the death and hundreds hospitalized so I was very worried
I was worried for all of a milisecond when I read about the fatality. I know that you had all of China on your side and Missus Bubs would've literally kicked started you back to life, if you dropped like that.
Congratulations, Bubs! Hope you are relaxing and enjoying cool drinks today in air conditioning.
I did not realize the severity of the situation. I'm so glad you are okay though. You are awesome!
WP, no kidding. The fear of MizBubs kicking my ass from beyond the grave if I croaked was a powerful motivator.
Katy, one thing I always tell my family is this--I know my limits, and there are things more worth dying for than running.
Johnny, I gotta tell you it was great hearing from you when I got home. Thank you.
Dr. MVM, thank you, but please don't ever use that word in regards to me. I'm writing about the experience right now. I have something to say about heroes.
Barbara, thanks.
Ten, thanks. I decided to forgo the tiki drinks that MizBubs offered to make. I stuck to beer--Shiner Bock, loaded with good carbohydrates.
One runner DIED. See, this is exactly why I don't run. Oh, and I'm lazy.
Talk about a race to the finish... geeze, glad you're okay.
Glad to hear you're doing well.
Congratulations.
I alway knew that sporty shit could kill you. Much safer to sit on a barstool and have a drink.
I'm glad you're OK!
I was in New Yawk and saw coverage on the news and hoped you were o-tay. Whew!
