Looks like John McCain's "Straight Talk Express" goes straight to dockside parking at a con man's rented yacht.
That picture is from this story in The Nation. It seems that America's favorite maverick, John McCain, celebrated his 70th birthday in exotic Montenegro, on a yacht rented by convicted swindler and con man Rafaello Follieri.

I found that article in The Nation after reading this absolutely excellent, essential editorial by Frank Rich:

Like I said in an earlier post, I don't talk too much about politics here. This year, though, is different, and I think that this election is important enough for me to sound off to anyone who'll listen.
The Frank Rich editorial is rich in linky particulars that are must reading for anyone trying to get family, friends or coworkers to focus on real issues and not the corporate media-driven distractions that McCain's campaign is attempting to feed us. For the sake of brevity, I'll throw out some bulleted points for a few of the items Mr. Rich mentions:

- The Keating 5 Scandal (seems like a good time to bring that up, doesn't it?)
- The big and little lies of the McCain campaign, including the whopper that Mother Theresa personally convinced Cindy McCain to bring home those two orphans from Bangladesh. (Bonus lie--Cindy also refers to herself as an "only child" even though she has two half-sisters.)
- Recent revelations about the extent of Cindy McCain's pain pill addiction and the resulting legal problems.
- More tales of the cronyism and vindictiveness that mark Sarah Palin's political style.
- The series of McCain flip-flops on economic issues, and the lack of a coherent written economic policy. Here's a great quote from that story: "His senior policy adviser, Douglas Holtz-Eakin, told reporters earlier in the day that there was no need for McCain to be specific right now. "There's no magic solutions, and I don't think it's imperative at this moment to write down what the plan should be..."

That guy seems a little young for MadDog to be pallin' around with. (I wonder if this was a dowry attempt of sorts.) Sheesh, will the corruption ever end?
(I was expecting the rented yacht to be campaign financed. Thank God he's not an elitist.)
I wrote today's post after reading that Frank Rich article. I ended up deciding to save commenting on it for later.
Did you see the breaking news story that McCain's campaign manager was paid $30,000 a year by an advocacy group set up by Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to defend them against stricter regulations? Yeah, he's a maverick.
Sorry, meant to say $30,000 a month. For five years.

It proves my theory that if you are in a room with John McCain, keep your hands on your wallet or your purse lest he steal what's in it.
The Rich article was excellent, and full of real links too, not those fake links that they usually do that only lead you to a page that searches their publication for articles about the person whose name is the link.
I'll read that piece - my newspaper column tomorrow introduces my very own term for the Canadian version of truthiness - I call it falsiness.
Un-fucking-beleivable that people STILL want to vote for this prick.

see even if he'd stop all that shit and be straight up i still wouldn't vote for him. Most of my life in Germany was spend being ruled by ancient guys and I am sorry they are all out of touch with reality. I think we need to have some young blood not old men
