Holiday season snapshots

Today was the employee holiday party for the town I work for. It’s a pretty big event held at a local banquet hall. There are usually about two hundred employees and retirees from all the different departments. The police and firefighters always have tables closest to the door in case those of us who attend on duty have to leave in a hurry. We had a split-the-pot raffle, with proceeds going to our local food pantry. It’s generally a good time.

Right before lunch was served the emcee asked for everyone to please sit down so the servers could begin serving lunch. Once everyone was seated, he asked us all to bow our heads and observe a moment of silence for employees and retirees who “are no longer with us.” I thought that was a nice gesture.

As soon as everyone in the room went silent it became hilariously obvious that there was some pretty loud Christmas music being piped in to the hall. It was hard to think about former co-workers who’ve gone before with the music reminding us that Santa Claus was coming, right down Santa Claus Lane.

Santa hasn't died for our sins. Yet.
