Here's Jackson Square being put to an altogether better use.
This is some video of a brass band that was playing in Jackson Square outside the Cabildo on Thursday, February 26. Check out the adorable woman who jumps in from the left side of the frame at around 1:14.
This is a short clip of a really neat jazz ensemble called Loose Marbles. There are about 15 of them, and they play in different combinations around the French Quarter to maximize their tips. I wish I had gotten more of them. I did get a CD of theirs, which is wonderful and old-timey. Here's a little taste to get the weekend started:

All she needed was gold lamé pants and we had the Solid Gold dancers.
This is why New Orleans is so cool. They have street musicians. We have nothing save the occasional fire n' brimstone street preacher, and even those are rarer than a Republican with actual family values.
That was wonderful. People in Iowa don't seem to be willing to share their music. The girl dancing should go on Ellen!
You'd like "The Sunshine Skiffle Band", ever heard of them? Someday I'm going to get to NOLA, I swear as God as my witness!
she was joyful - I loved "don't put that on Youtube" - what a smile she has
I adore the little boy - he's clearly a cool kid and I love how he stayed close by - I assume one of the musicians was his Dad
thank you for making me feel light and breezy on a cold Friday morn in NJ
Bubs, you need to move to Jolly Ole England.
"This is the kind of music that make me want to go out there and BE somebody!"
Thanks,
Doc
Loose Marbles are fabulous! I also love that they're a street band, yet have a piano, chairs, and an area rug. Classy AND sassy.
Thanks for the great weekend kickoff!
That brass band sure can wail! I loved the little kid who was just standing there as though nothing was going on 2 inches from his ear.
i love street bands......
Now that was just a good time! Thank you for sharing this. It brought a smile to my face.
I love New Orleans. I took so many pictures ten years later I still have rolls of 235mil film undeveloped.
Don't forget however that New York has street musicians and subway musicians, and even here in Salt Lake, we have a cellist who plays Bach cello suites outside our favorite matinee movie theater.
