Sunday odds and ends

I came home from work tonight and found this on the dining room table:

MizBubs, her mom and our youngest had gone out to some thrift shops this afternoon. Our youngest definitely scored the best stuff. Not only did she get the earth-tone yarn art masterpiece pictured above, she also got this 5x7 print:

Her room is already a riot of color and curiosities

Full of carnival postcards and big-eyed cats

So these latest acquisitions will fit right in.

Work is relatively pleasant and uneventful, but for some reason it's pissing me off to even be there. I have a Green Monkey Music Project mix to work on for my favorite Canadian zombie, and I'm a little peeved that I missed out on a chance to buy a Chinese made AK-47 for only $275. It's like I'm the only resentful middle-aged white guy around who's not getting in on the massive wave of hysterical gun purchasing.

Other than that, I got nothing.

There was no Sunday afternoon cocktail, since I was at work. I know, if I was any kind of hard-working, two-fisted old-school detective I wouldn't let being at work stop me from drinking. Well, just because there wasn't a Sunday afternoon cocktail doesn't mean there can't be a Sunday evening cocktail. Hell's bells, it doesn't even have to be a proper cocktail.

Tonight's drink is bourbon. Wild Turkey 101, on the rocks, with just a splash of water. Drink and repeat as needed.

What I need right now is a bottle of AK-47 vodka.

Those interiors and objets d'art are right out of the 1960s and 70s -- amazing.

I love the eclectic look of the art and of that room!!!

Turkey sounds pretty old-school to me. Hope you enjoyed it!

I like her taste. Big eyed cats and all.

Ahhh! I literally haven't seen a yarn creature since the 70's! Your daughter has great taste in kitsch, I'll have to send you guys pictures of the Keane gallery next to Ghiradelli Square.

Nice yarn work with the Owl! My sister had one of those back in the day.

And isn't Wild Turkey a little fancy for a hard-working, two-fisted old-school detective? Shouldn't it be something that costs under a buck and filtered through an old car radiator?

That owl is great. Me wants it!

Well said.

Blech - whiskey tastes like wet cardboard.

Your daughter's room takes me right back to every rec room in every basement that I ever entered in my childhood. Downright disturbing!

Tell them you can't go to work, you have a Green Monkey Music Project to work on!

I do believe that owl got to the thrift store via the estate sale of my mother-in-law's belongings. Seriously, she had so many owl collectibles, that had to be one of them...

The old yarn art. Oh yeah.

Yes, that owl resembles the decor of my childhood, owls in the 70's colors. My mother even started to look like that owl. No kidding.

Bubs, what a funny post. Did you write it before or after the Wild Turkey? I love the owl. I do. And your daughter's colorful room.

Too bad about the Chinese AK-47.

mimi, thank you! That post was mid-bourbon. I will tell my daughter you approve of the room. She's got quite the eye.

Mathman, D-Cup, I am fascinated by this owl-woman you speak of.

Dr Zibbs, howdy! Thanks for stopping by! Yes, the yarn art was a great craft wasn't it?

Barbara, what sets her room apart though is the relative lack of earth-tone walls and fake wood paneling. She does get the burnt orange in on the bedclothes and curtains though.

MnMom...NO!? Cardboard? Rocket fuel, maybe, turpentine, perhaps...but CARDBOARD? I'm so sorry.

Doc, thank you. We try.

Megan, Don't try and buy it from her, she'll rip you off.

Skylersdad, I don't drink rotgut, and it's 101 proof, so whatever it loses by being "fancy" it makes up in being devastating.

Cormac, we are a family of throwbacks.

K, thanks for stopping in! Nice to meet you. I'll pass that on to herself.

SomeGuy, I always do...

Fran, it's a wonderful room. I enjoy going in there and hanging around. She plays wonderful music, too, and has a cage full of trained rats that do tricks.

Erik, vodka mixes well it's true, but is no substitute for the finest
American spirit--bourbon.

Heals, no kidding...

Oh man, your daughter's room looks just like my friend Norma's room when I was a kid. Frightening. That freaky girl (and the partner, the freaky boy) print always scared the crap out of me.

I need to come to the Compound and share your bottle of Turkey with you. I promise I don't drink (too) much.

Your daughters need to hook up with the modern day equivalent of Roger Corman. One could do the make-up, one could do the set decoration, and they both could make quite a nice little living doing what they love to do best.
